I Am Finding Joy Through Movement

A significant part of the human experience is to find joy through movement. Your body needs to move to be healthy; your mind must be moved to create; your heart feels emotions that need to move through you to feel good; and your spirit moves you with divine inspiration.

"Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's

physical, emotional, and mental states." ~ Carol Welch

ACTION STEPS

One way I have found joy is through playing tennis. Even spraining my ankle and falling on the court during a match led me to create a more balanced way of living. The joy of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual movement has fueled both my personal and professional life for over thirty years. Discover the kind of movement that brings you joy and see where it leads you.

From the time you learned to crawl your body loved to move. At different stages of your life you may have been very active and at other times more sedentary. Find joy through movement by challenging yourself to do more than you think you can, and experience the health benefits of increased strength, flexibility, endurance, and energy.

Your body was designed for movement. Being sedentary is considered to be as harmful as smoking. That means even if you exercise after sitting all day, that's not as beneficial to your body as taking short movement breaks throughout the day in addition to a longer workout. You'll find joy through movement when you explore the variety of ways you can move your body that feel good.

When you get stuck in a negative mindset it's helpful to move out of it by activating your right brain. The right hemisphere is the creative, intuitive, receptive side and it gets turned on by the relaxation response. Alternate Nostril Breathing is a highly effective technique for calming the mind. Simply close off the right nostril with your right thumb, breathe in through the left nostril, close the left nostril with your ring finger, open the right nostril and breathe out. Repeat this sequence several times until you feel calm.

Emotion is energy that needs to move, otherwise it gets stored as emotional baggage. If you're holding on to a negative emotion from the past you may need to feel it to heal it, and then let it go. Positive emotions that are felt and expressed support your heart in being healthy and strong.

When your spirit moves you to take inspired action that's the best kind of movement. Your spirit moves your soul, your soul moves your heart, your heart moves your mind, and your mind moves your body. This moves you into a new way of being.

We're all moving through life on a planet that is continually spinning. Find the joy in movement and you'll be able to flow from one new experience to another with ease and grace. Like water flowing in rivers, streams and oceans, you generate positive energy when you move freely.
